The Health Department added this morning 125 positive unique cases by COVID-19 and five deaths to their report on the disease in Puerto Rico, so the total figures increased to 2,156 and 107, respectively.

This is the second time in less than a week that the agency reports more than a hundred new cases of contagion in a single day. Last Saturday Salud reported that the number of positives amounted to 1,747, after adding 182 cases.

The five reported deaths were added by the Demographic Registry, because the clinical picture of the patients at the time of death was compatible with COVID-19 and was thus classified in their death certificates.

In a press release, Salud reported that the deaths reported by the Demographic Registry are an 86-year-old woman from the Mayagüez region; three men aged 80, 63 and 49 from the Metro region; and an 87-year-old man from the Caguas region.

For today, the Health Surveillance System did not report new deaths of people confirmed as infected.

However, of the total deaths so far 56 were reported by said Surveillance System of the Department of Health and 51 by the Demographic Registry.

The results of the 125 additional unique positive cases are broken down into 16 through molecular tests and 109 by (rapid) serological tests.

The global number of confirmed unique positive cases is broken down into 1,029 results from molecular tests and 1,127 from serological tests.

While, of the total of 2,156 unique positive cases, 1,079 correspond to men and 1,077 to women.

The Department of Health has not reported since last Tuesday the amount of COVID-19 tests carried out on the island. That day Secretary Lorenzo González Feliciano said the figure was 61,515 tests, but clarified that the number should be purged.

Meanwhile, the age group with the highest incidence of infections corresponds to people from 50 to 59 years of age, with a total of 442 unique confirmed cases. This age range is followed by patients between 40 and 49 years old (394) and 30 to 39 years old (351).

The number of patients aged 19 years or less infected with the new virus rose to 120 today. Specifically, 43 cases have been reported in the group aged 10 years or less, while for the group of patients between 10 and 19 years of age, 77 reported.

The metropolitan area continues as the region of residence with the highest number of cases of infections with a total of 626, followed by the Bayamón region with 395 cases and Caguas with 296.

As of yesterday, 76 of the 78 municipalities have reported unique positive cases, according to Salud. The town with the most infections is San Juan with a total of 319, followed by Bayamón with 118 and Guaynabo with 121.

However, the agency does not have information on the place of residence of 143 infected people.

The only two towns that have not reported cases for COVID-19 are Maricao and Culebra.

In addition, the Health Department dashboard shows that 355 respirators were ordered since the emergency began and only 25 have arrived.

Currently, 820 respirators are available, 256 are busy, and 10 of them are being used by patients with the new coronavirus.
