Researchers at Cardiff University in Wales have discovered a cell capable of attacking a large part of cancer. A breakthrough in medical research that could pave the way for universal treatment.
It could be an exceptional discovery in the treatment of cancer, the second leading cause of death in France, according to the latest figures. Researchers at the University of Cardiff, Wales (UK) have discovered a particular T cell. It would be able to attack a large part of cancers in humans.
A new type T cell
Today, therapies use CAR-T cells, personalized according to the individual and the pathology to be treated. In addition, chemotherapy indiscriminately attacks cancer cells and healthy cells.
The T cell, discovered by the researchers, has a new type of receptor. Able to spot and degrade malignant cells while ignoring healthy ones. Also, this particular receptor could scan a molecule common to all human cells.
Ongoing tests on mice
The authors of the research are optimistic, although the road to universal cancer treatment is still a long one. So far, only tests on mice have been conducted. Experiments on humans could be planned after passing the security tests.
