Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, official spokesman of the Ministry of Health and Population, explained that the national polio vaccination campaign will be implemented in all governorates of the Republic.
Abdel Ghaffar stressed the importance of vaccination for all children in the age range from one day to 5 years, noting that the ministry implements the annual national campaign to keep Egypt free of the disease as the latest case of polio is was registered in Egypt in 2004, and the World Health Organization declared Egypt disease-free in 2006. Despite this, the Ministry carries out annual national campaigns to boost the immune status of children under five years of age and to increase the immunity among children from poliovirus-affected countries in order to keep Egypt polio-free.
