Libreville, Wednesday December 13, 2023 (Infos Gabon) – The Head of State, Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, yesterday kicked off construction work on the future headquarters of the Central African Banking Commission in Libreville.
It is a brand new building which will be built in Libreville in the coming months. The President of the Republic, Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, yesterday launched construction work on the future headquarters of the Central African Banking Commission (COBAC). The building in progress will house the services of this institution and will allow staff to work in a more comfortable environment.
Built on an area of more than 16,000 m2 and 50 m high, this infrastructure will consist of 7 floors with 150 offices, 400 workstations, a catering room, a media library, an infirmary and a sports hall, etc. The building located near the national headquarters of the Bank of Central African States (BEAC) will be powered by solar energy using 504 photovoltaic panels.
Created on October 16, 1990 by the States of Central Africa in a context of restructuring of the banking system and reform of the supervisory system of credit establishments, COBAC acts as a financial policeman within the CEMAC zone made up of Cameroon, from the Central African Republic, Congo Brazzaville, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea and Chad. On June 25, 1999, the Conference of CEMAC Heads of State held in Malabo in Equatorial Guinea then decided to establish the headquarters of COBAC in Gabon.
Through this act, the Gabonese head of state, Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, and his peers from the Central African Economic and Monetary Community aim to attract more investments to the sub-region. Especially since this institution must play a key role in banking, financial inclusion and, more generally, in sustainable economic and social development for Gabon.
