A bill aimed at reducing the environmental footprint of digital technology in France has just been voted on by Parliament. From now on, smartphone manufacturers are no longer obliged to provide wired headphones with their devices in France.

Apple, Samsung… these brands are no longer obliged to sell smartphones with headphones, reports Frandroid. Since 2010, manufacturers had to market their smartphones with an accessory to limit the exposure of the head to radioelectric emissions during communications. This text only exists in France. The law was passed by Parliament after the publication of some studies claiming that waves can cause certain tumors.

From now on, manufacturers will simply have to ensure the availability of headphones compatible with their devices during their marketing period. Patrick Chaize, the senator from Ain, explains that the headphones which are obligatorily supplied with smartphones constitute a significant source of waste.

For the Alerte PhoneGate association, this is an irresponsible decision. The association recalls that a prevention campaign launched a few days ago by the Ministry of Ecological Transition recommended the use of headphones to reduce exposure to waves. Now offline, this campaign does not align with the arguments of the senators. Do you think manufacturers should sell smartphones without headphones?
