Iulia Tkacenko stated that she was hosted “in a rural area of Romania”, in a hotel located in a forest.
The hotel owner “regularly organized drinking parties with his friends” and “encouraged us to attend.”
“I didn’t accept the invitation, I’ve never been, and I was afraid he would throw us out because of it,” says Iulia.
She blames the treatment provided by doctors for her sick son
The woman said that her son had pneumonia, and “the doctors in Romania were bad, they kept my child on the ground”. It was the moment that led her to leave the country.
Tkacenko did not specify where she lived in Romania, nor in which hospital her 4-year-old child was treated.
Through relatives, the Ukrainian managed to reach Switzerland, in Uster, in the canton of Zürich, “where Kiril received appropriate medical treatment.”
Her son is now healthy, Iulia said, wiping her tears. “After the holiday, Kiril starts kindergarten here,” she added.
She was the head of a modeling agency
In Ukraine, Iulia Tkacenko coordinated the modeling department of an agency in Dnipro, for which she organized fashion shows and photo shoots.

She is currently taking German courses in Uster. “I’m ready to start again from scratch, here in Switzerland,” concluded Iulia.
Like Yulia Tkacenko, other Ukrainian women continue to seek protection in Switzerland.
Julia Peters, founder of the association Good Friends for Ukraine: “They come here because their region has just been heavily attacked. Others fear that they have to survive another winter without heating”.
She also notes that many women from Ukraine have returned home, even though the war is not over.
“They feel more comfortable in their familiar environment,” notes Peters. “I see better prospects in Ukraine.” If you don’t speak German or English, in Switzerland you only have a chance to get a low paying job.
