Neuroscientists warn, the risk of stroke can be experienced by anyone. This includes young women, especially those with risk factors such as aneurysms. One of the signs is frequent headaches.
A neurologist from Pondok Indah Hospital, Dr. Rubiana Nurhayati, SpS, explained that an aneurysm is a condition where the walls of blood vessels are thin and break easily. This condition makes a person more susceptible to bleeding stroke.
The bad news, this condition is not always characterized by specific symptoms. Therefore, many people do not realize that they have an aneurysm until it ruptures and has a stroke.
“There are also those who often have headaches but have never been looked for, never had an MRI, so it was not known that he had an MRI. It was found out after it broke,” explained Dr. Rubiana in a recent discussion on detikcom’s eLife program.
Then who should be suspicious and get checked out? According to Dr. Rubiana, one of the signs that should not be underestimated is a recurring headache.
“If we often have headaches, repeatedly, in the same place, we should check with the doctor for an MRI brain to see abnormalities in the brain blood vessels,” suggested Dr. Rubiana.
If the condition is detected early, then a person can be more disciplined to avoid the factors that trigger stroke. In addition, doctors can also intervene to prevent strokes.
“So we make it not too thin (the blood vessels). Because the walls are too thin, like a balloon with thin walls, it can burst at any time,” explained Dr. Rubiana.
