Over time, researchers have found that the brain is particularly vulnerable to COVID-19. A study in new research suggests that mild headaches can be mild neurological symptoms with respect to virus.

A study published in the journal Annals of Clinical and Translational Neurology on October 5, 2020, included a survey conducted on 509 coronavirus patients at a Northwestern Medicine hospital in Chicago.

It was found that nearly 38 percent of these patients experienced headache at some point during the COVID-19 cases they suffered. People are more likely to face neurological symptoms during the course of their illness.

“This is the first study of its kind in the United States. There are only two other papers published that describe the prevalence of neurological manifestations in hospitalized COVID-19 patients in China and Europe,” said Igor Koralnik, study co-author and MD who supervised the study. Neuro COVID-19 Clinic at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, quoted Times of India, Wednesday, 7 October 2020.

Studies report that nearly 82 percent of patients suffer from the virus corona, experiencing neurological symptoms. 43 percent developed symptoms at an early stage, while 63 percent experienced neurological symptoms during their hospitalization.

Therefore, these numbers show that headaches are one of the most common neurological symptoms of COVID-19, requiring you to be admitted to the hospital immediately. Further studies suggest that patients with neurological manifestations will receive a longer hospital stay.

“Patients and doctors need to be aware of the high frequency of neurological manifestations of COVID-19 and the severity of altered mental functioning associated with this disease,” said Koralnik, to combat this virus from the face of the earth.

Currently, the number of COVID-19 cases in Indonesia is still high. For that, always adhere to health protocols and don’t forget to do 3M: Wear Face mask, Keeping Distance and Hand Washing With Soap.
