Headache and dizziness may occur with the use of mebeverine. These side effects are added to the mebeverine package insert.
Mebeverine is a medicine for irritable bowel syndrome. In irritable bowel syndrome, the intestines make too many or too few movements. As a result, people can experience abdominal pain, abdominal cramps, abdominal distension and constipation or diarrhea. Mebeverine ensures that the muscles of the intestines contract less hard, so that fewer abdominal cramps occur.
Until March 1, 2023, Side Effects Center Lareb received 30 reports of headache and 23 reports of dizziness when using mebeverine. Headache and dizziness were not yet listed as side effects in the package leaflet. These side effects are already described in some other sources of information. Lareb has therefore informed the Medicines Evaluation Board (MEB) about the reports. Headache and dizziness will be included in the package insert as side effects by the manufacturer later this year.
