On Monday afternoon, a head-on collision between two motorcyclists occurred on the Gurnigel Pass in Rüeggisberg. Both drivers were seriously injured and flown to the hospital in a Rega helicopter. The relevant section of the pass road was closed. The accident is being investigated.

On Whit Monday, May 29, 2023, shortly before 11:30 a.m., the Bern cantonal police received a report of a traffic accident on the Gurnigel Pass in Rüeggisberg. This is what the cantonal police in Bern writes in a media release.
According to the latest findings, a motorcycle was traveling from Sangernboden towards the top of the pass when, for reasons that have yet to be clarified, there was a head-on collision with an oncoming motorcycle in front of the Stierenhütte. Both drivers were seriously injured in the accident. After medical first aid was provided on site by two Rega crews, they were each flown to the hospital in a helicopter.
The section of road in question between the pass and the watershed had to be closed for several hours for the rescue and accident work. In addition to several patrols and special services from the Bern canton police, an ambulance team and the Rüeggisberg fire brigade were deployed.
The accident is being investigated by the cantonal police in Bern.
