On Friday at 1530, the emergency services were notified of a collision involving two cars on the E16 between Blindheim and Gaupås.
Four injured people were sent by ambulance to Haukeland Hospital. There were two people in each car, according to the police.
– There are two men in their 20s and 30s, a woman in her 30s, and a teenager, says operations manager Stein Rune Halleraker in the West police district to BA.
The accident happened while it was snowing heavily in the area.
Conscious and upbeat
As of now, the police cannot say anything more about the extent of the damage.
– The people were conscious and alert, and were not trapped, says Halleraker.
The cause of the accident has not yet been determined.
The police carried out investigations at the scene and have opened a case to find out why the head-on collision occurred.
Crisis on the “bypass”
The E16 was closed in both directions as a result of the accident. BA’s reporter in Åsane referred to the whole district as a queue.
The recommended detour was via Hardangervegen and Fana.
Many of the road users who had already ended up in the accident tried to use the local Blindheimsvegen, which is in no way designed for the Christmas exit on the E16.
– There is a reasonable crisis there now. On the traffic maps, it doesn’t look good, it’s very red, said traffic operator Eirik Elnes at the Vegtrafikksentralen.
At 1630 the road was declared open for free traffic again. It took some time before the queues cleared up.
