Head of the Brno circuit: We have to repair the track, otherwise it was the last time

How is that?
The topic of track quality has now taken a big turn. Loris Capirossi (promoter’s safety adviser) and Franco Uncini (MotoGP’s safety commissioner) said that unless the track is repaired, the bikes will not be released next year. This year, the riders really complained a lot and most of Friday’s falls were caused by the raid on the inequalities that are there. The track is absolutely fine for club riding or Czech champions, but of course it is not suitable for the machines of world champions. So we have a knife to our throat.

So will you fix the track?
We will start negotiating with the Association for the Grand Prix (organizer of the Brno race) on how to participate in the repair. We expect an investment of between 80 and 100 million. However, it depends on whether another five-year contract will be signed between the Association and Dorna (MotoGP promoter). Repairing a surface of 80 million for one year would be a reckless investment. We will see how the Association will react to this.

Will the investment in repairs go after you as a circuit?
We will participate financially in it, but it will certainly not follow us in full. We do not need track repairs for our driving and business. It will last another ten years, but the parameters for MotoGP are high, so we will have to participate in the repair with the Association.

So can you imagine that it will not take place in Brno in a year?
I can, because negotiations are difficult and the financial situation is not easy. In addition, the public and the media do not approach the race optimally. So I can imagine that this year was the last. But I believe that we will all do our best and want to maintain this unique race. However, if the money is not raised, the Grand Prix will not be here.
