Anyone who did not want to be vaccinated during the corona pandemic was quickly seen as lacking in solidarity. The head of the statutory health insurance doctors, Gassen, is now criticizing this as disproportionate. Former minister Spahn also spoke out again.
Those who have not been vaccinated against Corona have been stigmatized too much, according to Andreas Gassen, head of the statutory health insurance physicians. The issue of vaccination has been exaggerated in some cases, says the chairman of the National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians to the Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung.
He stresses that vaccination against corona was extremely important and useful for risk groups such as the elderly and those with pre-existing conditions. But he believes that the statement that those who are not vaccinated are to blame for infections and deaths is not supported.
No “pandemic of the unvaccinated”
The then Federal Minister of Health, Jens Spahn, had spoken, among other things, of a “pandemic of the unvaccinated” during Corona and recently received further criticism for this.
Im ARD-Interview This week, the CDU politician confirmed that he meant that it was mainly unvaccinated people who became seriously ill and ended up in intensive care. The aim was not to overload the health care system. In retrospect, however, Spahn would perhaps phrase some things differently, he admits.
Pandemic investigation in jeopardy
Spahn is in favor of an investigation into the corona pandemic in a Bundestag commission of inquiry. Gassen, head of statutory health insurance doctors, is also calling for this. This could help to heal wounds that have been opened and to better prepare Germany for a possible next pandemic. But the investigation is in jeopardy, and the traffic light coalition has so far been unable to agree on a common path.
