Head of Russian Mercenary Group Accuses Moscow of Ordering Attack on Wagner Camps
Jakarta – Yevgeny Prigozhin, the head of the Russian mercenary group Wagner, has accused the Moscow military leadership of ordering an attack on their camps, resulting in the deaths of most of their troops. In an audio message issued by his spokesman and reported by AFP on Saturday, Prigozhin stated, “We are ready to make concessions to the defense ministry, handing over our weapons.” He further claimed, “Today, seeing that we have not been broken, they carried out a missile attack on our back camp.”
Prigozhin vowed to “stop” the supreme military leadership of Moscow and urged Russia not to fight his troops. “The board of commanders of PMC Wagner has made a decision – the crimes brought about by the country’s military leadership must stop,” he declared.
However, Russia’s military leadership has denied the allegations made by the mercenary group. The defense ministry stated that the claims “do not correspond to reality” and called them a “provocation.” The ministry emphasized that Russia’s armed forces continue to carry out combat missions in Ukraine.
The situation between the Russian mercenary group Wagner and the Moscow military leadership remains tense. The accusations and denials have raised concerns about the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and the involvement of private military contractors in the region.
