Dr. Amr Kandil explained in Cairo 24 that the national polio vaccination campaign should start on December 11, to vaccinate all Egyptian and non-Egyptian children nationwide.
The head of the preventive medicine sector at the Ministry of Health and Population added that the campaign aims to vaccinate children from the age of one day to 5 years against polio. Keep Egypt polio-free, especially by welcoming expatriates and refugees from abroad.
In a separate context, Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Health and Population, confirmed that syncytial virus is not new, having been discovered since 1956, and is one of the viruses that infect the respiratory system.
Dr Khaled Abdel Ghaffar explained that syncytial virus is a virus with respiratory symptoms that increase with the onset of winter, noting that children aged less than 6 months to two years are the most vulnerable group to contract symptoms of this virus.
The minister added that the syncytial virus has not been as widespread in the past two years, due to the precautionary measures taken by families during the Corona pandemic.
He underlined that the incubation period of the disease ranges from 4 to 6 days, and can reach two weeks, then the symptoms appear on the patient, explaining that the virus lives on surfaces for hours, noting that newborns, under the age of 6 months, and children suffering from Immunocompromised pathologies or diseases, are the most exposed to the severity of symptoms, while pathological symptoms continue with children from two years to 5 years, from one to two weeks.
