The head of the Ministry of State Security of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic (PMR), Valery Gebos, claims that Ukraine and Moldova are speculating on the topic of a forceful solution to the Transnistrian conflict. He also expressed concern about the increase in military aid to Moldova. In his opinion, Chisinau is “pushed into a conflict with Transnistria.”
“In general, Ukraine and Moldova continue to implement the crisis scenario in relation to Pridnestrovie. Against the backdrop of a hybrid war, the closest neighbors are speculating on the topic of a forceful option for resolving the Transnistrian conflict,” said the head of the Ministry of State Security of the PMR in an interview with RIA Novosti.
Mr. Gebos said that on the eve of the European summit planned in Moldova on June 1, additional forces were sent there to ensure the security of the heads of European countries. “The increase in Western military assistance to Moldova and the number of representatives of foreign security agencies in the region with an unresolved conflict, naturally, causes concern,” he said.
According to the Minister of State Security of the PMR, the Pridnestrovian authorities have been monitoring the presence of representatives of foreign law enforcement agencies in Moldova for a long time. “We are sure that the people of Moldova do not want a repetition of the events of 1992, nor do Pridnestrovians. And those who are pushing Chisinau to a conflict with Transnistria should think about whether another hotbed of tension in Europe is needed,” Valery Gebos added.
In early May, the Transnistrian authorities asked Russia to increase the number of its peacekeepers. According to Leonid Manakov, the head of the republic’s representative office in Moscow, the number of Russian peacekeepers does not exceed 450 people, while 3,100 people are supposed to be. Moldova has previously spoken about violations of the security regime by the Russian peacekeeping contingent. The Kremlin advised Chisinau to be more careful in this matter.
