Head of Economic Affairs Stephanie Wüst at Sanofi im

(03.08.2022) City Councilor Stephanie Wüst continued her company talks in Industriepark Höchst with a visit to the healthcare company Sanofi Germany, the largest industrial company in Frankfurt am Main and also the largest location of the French group worldwide.

The visit by the head of the economics department together with the economic development department served to discuss the location development in the Höchst industrial park, current challenges of the chemical-pharmaceutical industry in Germany and the project work within the framework of the industrial master plan of the city of Frankfurt am Main.

The Head of Economic Affairs informed herself about current changes in the industry and the transformation process of Sanofi at the Höchst site from a diabetes competence center to an integrated organic campus.

“The economic and social importance of Sanofi in Frankfurt am Main goes far beyond the company’s borders and the achievements for economic development and prosperity in Frankfurt am Main deserve great recognition,” said the head of the economic department, expressing her appreciation for the far-reaching commitment of the worldwide active healthcare company that contributes significantly to investment, training and employment, income, innovation and knowledge, as well as awareness of the industry.

The company employs 7,750 people in Germany, most of them at the Höchst site. With a turnover of 4.8 billion euros and stable profits, Sanofi Germany is also one of the major trade tax payers in Frankfurt am Main.

Prof. Dr. Jochen Maas, Managing Director Research and Development at Sanofi Germany, explained: “The Höchst site covers the entire value chain from research and development to production and manufacturing for modern biologicals, the importance of which for medical care is constantly increasing. The integrated site forms a unique network and offers the best conditions for supplying the German market as well as around 100 other countries worldwide with medicines.”

Marcus Lueger, Managing Director Finance Germany, Switzerland, Austria at Sanofi, thanked the head of the economic department of the city of Frankfurt am Main for the visit: “The Höchst location is very important for Sanofi. That’s why we look forward to the constructive dialogue on how we can further improve the general conditions at the site together, in order to make investments in new technologies and in the future of the industrial site here.”

During a tour of the factory premises in Industriepark Höchst, City Councilor Stephanie Wüst was impressed by the dimensions of the operations at the Sanofi site and the bundled expertise in research and development, production and logistics.

“The chemical-pharmaceutical industry is a key sector for Frankfurt as an industrial and business location with great economic importance for the city,” emphasized Economics Director Wüst.

The Head of Economic Affairs thanked Sanofi-Germany for their commitment to projects in the Industrial Master Plan of the City of Frankfurt am Main.

Oliver Schwebel, Managing Director of the Frankfurt Economic Development Agency, thanked the management of Sanofi Germany for the company’s contribution to overcoming the corona pandemic, for example by filling several hundred million vaccine doses at the Höchst site, and emphasized: “Frankfurt can rightly be proud of what industrial companies like Sanofi and their employees achieve every day here in Industriepark Höchst and at other locations in the city.”

The master plan industry Frankfurt am Main with 30 projects in the eight fields of action spatial-functional development concept, digital infrastructure, energy, logistics, attractiveness of the industry: communication and positioning, work and qualification, administrative processes and government services and innovation, jobs and value creation of the future forms one broadly structured and long-term process to strengthen the network of manufacturing and industry-related services along value chains.
