UCLA and head coach Chip Kelly continue to walk their path together. The 59-year-old extended his contract in Los Angeles until 2027.
- “Football program on the up”
- In a bowl game for the first time since 2017
- Top stats on offense
“I am thrilled with our football program led by Coach Kelly and his talented staff,” Martin Jarmond said in a statement. “The football program is on an upward trend,” continued the University of California athletic director. Chip Kelly has been the head coach of the UCLA Bruins since 2018 and was previously the head coach in the NFL with the Philadelphia Eagles and San Francisco 49ers.
For the first time since 2017, the Bruins reached a bowl game last season. Even though the Sun Bowl ended up being lost 35-37 to the Pittsburgh Panthers, the Californians can look back on their most successful season since 2014, when head coach Jim Mora won the Alamo Bowl 40-35 against the Kansas State Wildcats. Last season, UCLA finished 9-4, Kelly’s best record.

Kelly is known as one of the top spread offense innovators in college football. Under his stewardship, the Bruins were most recently rushing 503.6 yards per game at 7.01 yards per play, both of which were national top five metrics. As of 2024, the Bruins will play in the Big Ten. Nothing was announced about the terms of the new contract.
