He won the lottery, he told it in a WhatsApp group and his prize was stolen

The bettor won the lottery, then shared a photo of the ticket on a WhatsApp group. When he went to collect the prize, he got an unpleasant surprise.

Sometimes sharing everything by WhatsApp groups can be harmful. This lesson was learned by a Spanish citizen, from the Murcian town of Cartagena, who, after winning a prize of 1,200 euros in a lottery bet, shared a photo of the ticket in a group on the Facebook messaging app to show off with his contacts.

But the lucky man got an unpleasant surprise when trying to collect his prize: when, the next day, he went to the indicated place, he discovered that another person had already claimed the reward, registering on the Lotteries website by including the barcode identifier of the ticket.

Likewise, the owner of the winning card went to the local Police offices to report this fact and the agents, with the help of the betting establishment, managed to identify and arrest the alleged culprit of this crime of fraud: an 18-year-old young man .

This cybercriminal, who received the photograph of the winning ticket through another WhatsApp group, took the code of the winning ticket and registered it as his own on the web, revealing how dangerous it is to share photographs of certain documents in applications.

Specialists recommend using filters to erase the sensitive contents of the images before sharing them publicly in application chats such as WhatsApp or Telegram and thus avoid future headaches.
