A few days from Third Government Report of the President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, Members of the civil association “Realidades Mi Mundo Mágico” reported that they had a sculpture of the Federal executive in real dimensions in recognition of “their successes” during their government, and which they will seek to be installed in the National Palace.
The sculpture, which was sent to the foundry last March and delivered in April, was made by artist Oscar Ponzanelli.
In the sculpture you can see President López Obrador dressed in a suit and holding a document with both hands.
Eduardo Abelardo, president of the association, reported that the work will be delivered to the President López Obrador as a sign of his “tireless work in the fight against political corruption and to obtain the vaccine against the pandemic and for the social welfare of our Mexican people.”
“We join a group from the entire Mexican Republic who are followers of our president and seeing his achievements, his successes, we think, through my association, to make a monument with the motto` No more political corruption, no to organized crime and yes to well-being social´ ”, he points out in a video uploaded to his Facebook account.
The founder of the organization reported that a bust of President López Obrador is also ready and which is planned to be delivered, detailed, to prominent people in the country, such as athletes, artists or even governors.
He points out that at a press conference on Friday, August 27, he will announce more details of the work.
AMLO does not want statues
On October 2, 2019, President López Obrador announced that when his term at the helm of the Presidency ends, he will retire from politics and that he does not want streets named after him or statues of him installed in the country.
“If the people want my presidential term to end in 2024, I want to be at peace, retire, I am not going to re-elect myself, and I am not going to be getting involved in political issues or even my party, I am withdrawing completely. I also do not want anything to do with cult of personality, I do not want to name streets or statues or tributes, none of that, “he said.
In June of last year, EL UNIVERSAL documented that streets, neighborhoods, alleys, even avenues are some of the urban spaces that in Mexico bear the name or surname of Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
In a review made by this publishing house of the country’s street registers, it was found that at least six entities – Mexico City, Tabasco, the State of Mexico, Guerrero, Oaxaca and Veracruz – bear the name of the Chief of the federal Executive, despite the fact that he has stated that he does not want any of them to bear his name.
