The Ministries of Justice and Social Solidarity and the Family have set a vision for setting up institutions to house and care for child victims of rape, according to what was stated by the Minister of Justice, Abdel Latif Wehbe, today, Monday, during the oral questions session in the House of Representatives.
In his answer to an oral question about “tightening deterrent penalties for child rape”, submitted by the movement team, Mr. Wehbe explained that this step aims to provide support to the victims and isolate them from the environment in which they were subjected to rape.
In this context, the Minister stressed the need to cancel the mitigating circumstances of the criminal provision related to the rape of children, and not to consider the waiver of the victims’ parents, in light of the recent crime of rape of a child in the city of Tiflet, for which the Appeal Criminal Chamber of Rabat issued sentences ranging between 20 and 10. years in prison for the three accused involved.
Mr. Wehbe also stressed the need to track cases of child victims of rape and accompany them psychologically and socially, while preserving and protecting children’s rights in general, “including their physical integrity and respect for their being and existence,” pointing out that the criminal law has been reviewed to protect this international legal principle.
