On 24 September, a coveted business letter from Hamburg will go under the hammer at the Heinrich Koehler auction house in Wiesbaden.
Starting offer: 60,000 euros. “It’s a postal history grenade,” says the auctioneer. He expects tough bidding fights.
The letter is blue with red stamps.
The original red stamp
He went from Hamburg to New York via Liverpool in 16 days in 1859 and carries four 9 shilling yellow stamps: the first issue of stamps in Hamburg.
