Gynecologist Štěpán fought for many years with extreme overweight. When he got to the 3rd Internal Medicine Clinic of the General Hospital to associate professor Martin Matoulek in 2010, he weighed almost 200 kilos.
–
At that time, he had a number of health problems. In addition to shortness of breath, high blood pressure, or swollen legs, he also suffered from sleep, fatigue problems, or depression and anxiety.
–
“I started at 197 kilos, that was the first weight I had with the associate professor, then I successfully reduced my weight by 120 kilograms. Now I weigh plus or minus 85 kilograms and I have kept this weight for about five years, “he told Novinky.

At first, doctors started solving the problem of sleep apnea, when an individual snores at night, misses his breath and wakes up very tired in the morning. After solving this problem, he lost 30 kilograms without any restriction.
–
In 2012, he underwent surgical reduction of the stomach. “The operation will force you to eat often and little. But you still have to act like you’re overweight, and you have to think about what you’re eating. A person who is once obese will always be obese, it is difficult to maintain weight, “he described the complexities he will continue to face.
–
The desire to live an active life with children also forced him to lose weight.

His two children also motivate him to maintain a lower weight. “Being so obese, you can’t do anything, you’re not good enough for a small child. It’s a completely different lifestyle when you lose weight. A normal person who is thin can’t even imagine that, “he added.

Similarly, he would recommend obese people to admit that the main problem is food and eating habits.

They are preparing a XXL center
III. The internal clinic of the General University Hospital in Prague has long focused on the treatment of extreme obesity. The first XXL center in the country will be added to the hospital. It should have special operating tables, beds with the necessary load capacity, wheelchairs, devices, XXL ambulances or, for example, rehabilitation devices.
–
Today, the gynecologist weighs about 85 kilograms.
“It is being prepared from the subsidy program of the European Union. The information is that if everything goes as we expect, we should have a fully equipped XXL center in 2023 at the latest, “David Feltl, the hospital’s director, described to Novinky. VFN was the first to join the XXL centers program, more of them should be established in the Czech Republic in the future.

Although they can take care of extremely obese patients in the hospital now, it means a significant burden for the facility and staff, and especially a significant discomfort for the patient.
–
“Of course, we can take good care of them, but the patient certainly does not have such comfort, not only here, but anywhere in the Czech healthcare system, as the patient, for example, is 80 kilograms. That needs to be said out loud, “added director Feltl.
