He was reborn from his own ashes. Shoe retailer Leonardo has returned to the market and already has 50 stores

During the boom years, the company was the largest shoe retailer in Romania, but in 2013 it went bankrupt.

The footwear retailer Leonardo, killed by the financial crisis a decade ago, is again active on the market with the same brand and site and already has 50 stores in large and medium-sized cities in the country such as Bucharest, Ploiesti, Falticeni or Oneşti.

“Leonardo is a 100% Romanian brand, launched on the footwear market in 1994, currently with a number of 50 stores throughout the country. The company is constantly expanding so that in each of the important cities of Romania there is at least one Leonardo store “, say the company’s representatives on its website.

The company was initially launched in 1994 by the Panea family. During the boom, Leonardo had reached over 200 stores in Romania and in neighboring countries and a business of about 130 million euros. In 2013 the retailer went bankrupt and the brand was taken over by someone else. Now, the company that operates the Leonardo store network is again controlled by the Panea family.

The relaunch of the Leonardo brand, in full pandemic, takes place on a highly competitive market, with sales estimated at 1 billion euros annually. Unlike the clothing market where international brands dominate, here the fight is between foreign names – Deichmann or CCC – and local ones – Benvenuti, Otter or Musette.
