He wants a council discussion on schools

JOHNINE PARENTS ASSOCIATION

Two months ago, the Parents’ Association submitted a request to the Municipal Council of the Municipality of Ioannito to discuss the serious issue of building school infrastructure in the Municipality.

As she states in her announcement, she did not receive any response from the Municipal Authority.

On the occasion of the incident with the student of the Standard High School of Zosimaia School of Ioannina who fell from a height of six meters after the wire fencing of the school’s yard collapsed, the Parents’ Association notes that this incident highlights the enormous timeless responsibilities of governments and Municipal Authorities who have left the school units to their fate.

“The accident at the Standard High School is not an isolated incident. Every day minor injuries to students occur in schools due to poor workmanship and damage to the buildings and yards. The attempt to attribute the accident to “individual responsibility” as was evident from the statements of Mr. Mayor and the arrest of the school’s Principal “for causing bodily harm by negligence” it cannot cover up the enormous responsibilities of the government and the Municipality.

We require:

  • To hold an immediate debate in the Municipal Council on the state of the infrastructure of the Municipality’s schools, with the aim of drawing up a framework of action to solve the problems raised by the Parents’ Association and the educational Unions of Ioannina.
  • To initiatives should be taken immediately to deal with the problems of the safety of the buildings and their anti-earthquake-fire protection, given that no measures have been taken in the past nor have corresponding studies been carried out. There should be an immediate technical inspection (within three months) by levels of engineers of the Municipality, who will examine the safety of the building infrastructure in relation to the structural adequacy (buildings, roofs, sports equipment), fire safety and electromechanical infrastructure. To design generalized interventions in overworked schools that have been built decades ago.

The general request that should dominate is one: “Elaboration of a National Program for the Evaluation, Redesign and Reconstruction of all existing school units and the construction of new teaching units, to fully cover all the modern needs of the education of young people”. Such a plan is completely feasible today as it would require, on a financial and technical level, what was needed, for example, to complete the Ionian Way or the Egnatia Way. The labor and scientific potential is there, there is also the money, our own money from our taxation. What is needed is only the political will,” the statement said.
