The women’s soccer team of Venezuela, from the absolute division, closed its performance in the Turkish Cup (Turkish Women’s Cup) with a goalless draw against the Uzbekistan team, a result that allowed it to remain runner-up in the tournament, barely surpassed for the representative of Ukraine that carried the title and was the only team that could beat the Creole, 1-0 in the debut of the Venezuelans; while the captain Deyna Castellanos received the award for Best Forward of the tournament.
In addition to the defeat against Ukraine and the tie with Uzbekistan, in the other match played by the Venezuelans they managed to beat the Latvian team 3-O, with goals from Kimberlyn Campos, Gabriela García and Bárbara Sánchez, which allowed them to add four points for the second position of the criollas, to which the fact that they barely allowed one goal and scored three also contributed; while the third box went to the Uzbek team, in a tournament in which the other participants were Latvia, Bulgaria and Lithuania.
According to the review of the press team of the Venezuelan Football Federation, published on its website, “despite a broad Creole domain, the scoreboard did not move during the ninety minutes”, indicating that at 32 the first threat occurred burgundy when Bárbara Sánchez crossed for Raiderlin Carrasco, who entered the area with great skill and shot in a one-on-one with goalkeeper Laylo Tilovava that deflected the ball. The criollo attack increased in the last twenty minutes, with shots from outside the area that did not find the rival net, increasing the avalanche in the final five (they played four overtime), since at 89 goalkeeper Laylo Tilovava was expelled after a action that Verónica Herrera began with a pass to Deyna, causing the goalkeeper to leave the area, where he had to save the ball with his hands when Castellanos managed a shot that was going to go over it, causing a red card.
This has been the first preparation tour carried out by the women’s Vinotinto abroad this season, the intention of the Italian coach Pamela Conti, who is in charge of the team, was “to know the European level”, and before the match against Uzbekistan they had indicated that “today Venezuela still has a long way to go to be able to reach a physical level like that of the Europeans, but we are working for that. It is a positive balance and we have been able to compete”. The initial intention is to arrive in the best conditions at the Copa América, which will be in Colombia, from July 8 to 30 of this year.
