He surpassed Salah and Hakimi. Nigerian Osimhen is the best African player

The star of the Nigerian national team and the Italian club Napoli, Victor Osimhen, was crowned the best player in Africa for the year 2023, according to what the President of the Confederation of African Football, Patrice Motsepe, announced on Monday.

Osimhen, who led Napoli to win the Italian League title last season, won this award, beating the Moroccan star, Achraf Hakimi, the right-back of the French club Paris Saint-Germain, and the Egyptian striker, the English star of the English club Liverpool, Mohamed Salah.

The 24-year-old player received the award at the Best Awards ceremony held by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) in the Moroccan city of Marrakesh on Monday.

Osimhen said after receiving the award: “I thank God and thank him for this award,” stressing that “it was a dream for me that has come true. I want to thank Nigerians and the Nigerian public for their support of me, as well as thank the African continent and thank everyone for encouraging me.”

The 24-year-old striker excelled last season with Napoli, after scoring 31 goals in various competitions and contributing to his team winning the Italian League champion title after a drought that lasted 33 years, and he was crowned its top scorer.

His club, Napoli, estimates the player’s market value at approximately 200 million euros.

Osimhen recently revealed that he rejected tempting offers to join the Saudi Football League last summer, noting that his decision was “good for his career.”

Previous reports stated that he received an offer from Al Hilal Saudi Arabia.
