The police investigation began after various reports of incidents of theft of cash and valuables committed to the detriment of both patients and their families, within the obstetrics-gynecology department at Santa Maria degli Angeli. The thefts were always committed in the same way: while the mother was busy giving birth, sums of money contained in bags and jackets left temporarily unattended disappeared from the room. At least eight confirmed thefts, committed between March 2023 and February this year, in which a total of over 1,200 euros in cash and jewelery worth 2 thousand euros were stolen. To identify the author, the hospitalization of a Flying Squad policewoman in a room equipped with cameras was simulated: as soon as she left for an alleged visit, the Oss took possession of 50 euros, taken from the drawer .
