Sarah Yassin Ismail Yassin, the granddaughter of the late artist Ismail Yassin, has revealed many unknown aspects of the life of her grandfather, who died 50 years ago after reigning for years on the throne of comedy in Egypt.

He said in an interview with “Al-Arabiya.net” that his grandfather was a lover of reading and education and had a large library in his home, despite not completing his education and dropping out of school in the fourth grade. due to family and economic circumstances difficulties that have happened to him, noting that he compensated with reading and knowledge.

He pointed out that his grandfather suffered early in his artistic and film career and slept on the streets and in mosques because there was no shelter for him, and he also tried to steal fish from a cat’s mouth due to the his strong hunger and lack of money with him to buy food.

He didn’t die penniless

The comedy icon’s granddaughter indicated that her grandfather did not die penniless, as they say, but rather owned property after paying taxes before his death and left them with a large inheritance, noting that despite the termination of theatrical work, Ismail Yassin pays the artists’ wages with his own money.

He claimed that his grandfather and father were fanatically encouraging the Zamalek club.

His grandfather followed with passion and anxiety all the games of his team, and took the train and sometimes the plane to follow the White Club games in the governorates and outside Egypt.

She added that the late artist starred in films dealing with the army, at the request of the late President Gamal Abdel Nasser, to encourage young people to join the army, and those films have achieved great success and wide fame.

Sarah revealed that her grandfather was a lover of Egyptian food in general and enjoyed eating molokhia in particular, noting that she did not live the period of her grandfather’s presence, but she heard about him from his family and relatives who they told many aspects of his life.

He said his grandfather was a good man, as he appeared on screen, but there were some differences between his true personality and his acting. In fact, he was very serious and loved solitude and was not very sociable. He was satisfied with three friends from outside the artistic community who meet only with them.

Sarah explained that her grandfather was a traditional Egyptian father, who loved commitment and discipline, so that he would stay awake until all family members fell asleep and walked into all the rooms to turn off the lights. before going to sleep.

Yassin explained that his grandfather was not honored by any official authority in his life, despite his artistic career, spanning over 30 years of Egyptian film history, during which he presented more than 200 films and 66 plays.

He added that the deceased was not honored for life or after his death except once, and this was by decision of the governor of Suez, and at that time the honor was received by his father, the deceased director. Yassin Ismail Yassin.

Sarah expressed her happiness for honoring her grandfather’s name at the latest Alexandria Film Festival for Mediterranean Countries, concluding her speech by saying that she is proud and lucky to be the granddaughter of a comedy icon in Egypt. .

Interestingly, Ismail Yassin was born on September 15, 1912 and his artistic career continued for many years, excelling in comedy roles and monologues and ascended the throne of comedy in Egypt until his death on May 24, 1972.
