A domestic worker was sentenced in the city of Rosario to three years in prison for an ant theft of more than 100,000 dollars from her employer, an 80-year-old woman, with whose life savings she bought two cars and paid her her daughter’s trip to Disney World, among others, judicial sources reported today.
According to the investigation, the theft took place over two years, between 2014 and 2016, during which time the domestic worker worked in the house of the woman who reported her for the lack of money.
Judge Román Lanzón approved an abbreviated agreement reached between the defense of the accused, named Natalia, and the prosecutor Juliana González, for which he accepted the crime committed and received a penalty of three years in prison, that is, in freedom.
According to the case, initiated in 2016 by the complaint of a daughter of the victim, Natalia came to work in 2014 in the downtown department of the woman recommended by the previous employee.
The confidence was such that the employer gave a copy of the keys to the apartment to the domestic worker, who spent a good part of the working day alone while the woman attended a shop, spokesmen for the case said.
As established during the investigation of the case, the money from the apartment’s owner’s savings was kept in a bag located inside a locked closet, the only copy of which was owned by the owner.
Although the investigation failed to determine how the employee got to the place where the money was kept, the investigations believe that Natalia made a copy in some negligence of her employer.
The truth is that doubts about the domestic worker arose from her lifestyle, which suddenly began to change.
As it became known later, during those years he bought a car and then another, modular, televisions, a PlayStation console and one of his daughters traveled to Disney, in the United States, when she was 15 years old, expenses that were not commensurate with her income and income. of her husband, who did not have a permanent job, spokespersons for the case said.
Graciela, a daughter of the victim, discovered the theft when she went to the closet with her mother to look for the bag with the savings because she needed money and discovered that there were $ 90,000 in US bills and about 180,000 Argentine pesos missing, the sources said.
They added that the mother and daughter waited for Natalia the next day and asked her for an explanation for what happened with the missing money, to which the employee replied: “I skated it at the casino.”
Part of the assets accumulated by the domestic worker with the stolen money will go to an official auction to compensate the victim for the damage suffered, although judicial spokesmen anticipated that it will be a lower amount in relation to what was stolen.
