We meet David Garrett in Manhattan, New York. The star violinist has been living here for years. During a tour of his apartment and a walk through the city, we spoke to the 43-year-old about his family planning. The video gives an insight into his very private four walls.
David Garrett’s life only became more social in NY
The “child prodigy”, as many call David Garrett, first held a violin in his hand at the age of four. Since then, he has practiced for eight hours a day. Free time and friends? None! “I had a lot of private lessons and therefore didn’t have this social environment, friendships and so on. That only happened when I came here to New York,” he tells us in an interview.

Last year he was on tour for ten months. The next one is already underway: Garrett will be touring Europe in March with the “Millenium Symphony World Tour” (all information here). So there isn’t much time for private life here either. But he has been in a steady relationship for five years. His girlfriend is a German woman who is not in the public eye – and he wants it to stay that way.

When we then asked him about family planning, the violinist became emotional: “I think you should have a certain amount of responsibility. I would want to be there for the child. As far as I’m concerned, you can be away for two or three months a year – but not the way we’re currently doing it. It wouldn’t be my thing. So in the current situation, it’s not fair to my girlfriend, just as it would be if I had a child.”
However, the 43-year-old only wants to slow down in ten years. And then maybe start a family…
