Cesar Alonso is 59 years old and three and a half years ago he received a new heart. After having been in a deep coma for 16 hours, he currently leads a normal life living his passion for indoor soccer from the outside, since in 2014 he had to retire from that sport due to heart and respiratory failure.
After this miracle of life, César focused on making people aware of the importance of donating organs, taking into account that he considers that he was born again after receiving a transplant in record time.
“Due to the pandemic, I was not going to Buenos Aires for the most exhaustive controls, but as of April 14 I am already there for the general control. I’m fine, complying with all the care recommended by the doctor, ”he told El Territorio.
About that moment that changed his life, he recalled: “On July 17, 2017, I received the transplant at the Italian Hospital, in Buenos Aires, since my heart and respiratory failure required this operation. The wait was long, but under a lot of medical containment ”.
And he explained: “They put me to sleep, they took me to Buenos Aires with the medical plane, but the one that suffered the most was my family because I was in a deep coma and I didn’t realize everything that was happening. Thanks to God and to that family that decided to donate, I received a heart at 4 pm after being on the national emergency list ”.
The only information he has about his donor is that he was 29 years old and a healthy person, but he does not rule out meeting the young man’s family one day to thank them for the gesture of giving life from a person who is no longer there.
When he started with heart failure, they placed five catheters, then a pacemaker with which he continued for a while, until he had a cardiac arrest that led him to be on the national emergency list for heart transplantation.
“Everything was very fast, since I entered the emergency list, it took 16 hours for a heart to arrive. I come from a Catholic family, I always entrusted myself to God and to all the saints and I received this miracle, that is why also from that moment I always try to raise awareness about the importance of organ donation, it is painful to lose a relative but you have to think that it is They can save many lives and continue to keep that loved one in mind in this way, ”he reflected.
Alonso retired as a commercial employee and for 25 years he dedicated himself to playing indoor soccer, a discipline that he had to stop practicing due to his health problem. In 2019 Montecarlo was one of the venues for the Futsal World Cup and there he fulfilled one of his dreams: to be in a World Cup and collaborate with the local organization in the care of the Argentine team. Although it is not possible to play today, it is still close.
“I am infinitely grateful to the provincial government for making the medical plane available when I needed it, to the Osecac social work, which gave me everything I need, to the Montecarlo community for all the support always and my family who took the hardest part and it always is. I can say that I continue my normal life doing everything I need, only without being able to play football, but I went back to living and having hope, “he concluded.
