It appears that he opened this door when the driver struck an anti-parking barrier during a maneuver.
According to the first elements of the investigation, five people, including the victim, were in the vehicle at the time of the facts. All were returning from a party organized in a bar on Place Bérule in Grenoble and all were heading for the neighboring town of Eybens. Some of the passengers would have heckled during the trip and the victim would have opened the door, probably as part of this entertainment specific to the end of the evenings. Unfortunately, the timing of this door opening was fatal to him.

At the same time, the driver of the car allegedly missed a maneuver and hit an anti-parking barrier on rue Léon Jouhaux. It would have brutally closed the door on the 26-year-old man who immediately passed out. Despite a rapid intervention, the emergency services were unable to revive him. They also carried out a rigorous blood alcohol test which came back positive. Two other passengers were taken care of at the Nord hospital in Grenoble, including a slightly injured woman.
