Today is a big day in the world of global e-commerce. Andy Jassy officially took over the position of CEO of Amazon today, and the father of the founder Jeff Bezos moved to the role of executive chairman.
Bezos thus ends the stage he began the day exactly 27 years ago, when Amazon founded it on a desk made of doors. During that time, he became the richest man on the planet, and Amazon made it to the hard-to-reach Internet mole, which ranges from e-commerce to the cloud to film production, earning more than $ 386 billion last year alone.
This is, for a better idea, about fifty percent more than the Czech Republic’s gross domestic product. And unlike in the Czech Republic, Amazon is still growing at a double-digit rate year-on-year.
Andy Jassy should continue in this set hockey stick. A graduate of Harvard Business School, he joined Bezos in 1997 and since 2003 has led a division now known as Amazon Web Services. It was from this cloud branch that, under Jassy’s leadership, a golden egg hatched, accounting for more than half of Amazon’s operating profitability with $ 45 billion in revenue.
By the way, Jassy, who is a minority owner of the Seattle Kraken hockey team, who will play in the NHL next time, does not just take over the fame and solid train after Bezos. Amazon, like other large technology companies, is struggling with regulators criticizing its size. The company’s relationship with employees, part of which wanted to establish their own unions a few months ago, is also being addressed.
Bezos was subsequently told that the incident had “opened his eyes” to him and that he would reconsider his relationship with the company’s employees, which are well over a million worldwide. This is also a legacy that Andy Jassy, a father of two, will have to deal with.
David Pavlík has a unique experience with a man who will now be looked at by the entire business world with great expectations. Before returning to the Czech Republic to help take Honza Bednář’s ShipMonk to a new level, he spent an incredible career in the United States, where he worked at Microsoft, Netflix, SpaceX and Amazon. And just under Andy Jassy.
He would not call him Jeff Bezos 2.0, but according to Pavlík, he will go on the way out of Jassy. “I think he will still build on Amazon’s core values, customer centerism. Jeff Bezos will follow in this, “says David Pavlík.
“He’s the type of person we talk about in interviews. He looks at a twenty-page presentation and says in half a minute where the error is. I spent the previous two weeks at that presentation and I didn’t find a mistake, “Pavlík admits with a smile.
It is worth mentioning the illustrative character of Jassy and the approach of Amazon, when Pavlík and his team had to present the results of the monthly work.
“We went to a meeting where Andy Jassy and the other vice presidents were. We took thirty pages of the presentation and agreed with my colleagues that we would put it in such folders, so that it all looked at least a little. We got there, handed out the folders, and Andy Jassy took his own, looked at it, and asked us why we were spending money. ”
“After all, papers are enough”
