RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL (Aftenposten): Brazil will elect a president on Sunday. Two groups can decide the election.

Aftenposten is in a favela, a slum, in Rio de Janeiro. For many years this area was the most dangerous in the city, but since 2012 the police have been stationed in the Vidigal favela. Security increased and tourist destinations and nightclubs appeared on the ground floor. But inside the favela it becomes less and less developed and poorer. And now someone is following.
This makes Roberto Freire stressed out. He sells football shirts in the middle of the favela. Here you can find, among other things, the yellow-green jersey of the national team. A symbol that previously united the largest democracy in Latin America, but which is now associated with President Jair Bolsonaro.
The seller is initially skeptical about speaking, but inside the shop opens up more.
Elections are held in Brazil on Sunday and Freire knows what’s important to him: drug policy and gendered sex education.
– They want to teach our children that they can choose their gender when they grow up. Is absurd. There are only two genders, says the seller, who is also a member of the evangelical church “Igreja Universal do Reino de Deus”.
Freire is poor and religious. This makes him one of Brazil’s most wanted voters. We will talk about it later.
