He leaves football to donate part of his liver to his mother

Soccer player Robert Peric-Komsic, from the Croatian second division, paused his dream to do something truly important: donate part of his liver to his sick mother, because without her, his dream would be incomplete, it would be worth nothing to be a professional without having saved to his mother.

The player is 23 years old and is a striker for the Cibalija de Vinkovci team, but a few months ago he left the club’s concentration to go to the hospital where his mother was hospitalized in Istanbul, Turkey. Without hesitation, Robert underwent surgery in which he donated 70 percent of his liver to his mother.

Peric-Komsic’s mother had already undergone several transplants that were unsuccessful, as her body had ended up rejecting the livers of other donors. On this last occasion, her health was already critical, her stomach had begun to be affected and the medical prognosis was disappointing.

I had a completely clear image of risk, but at the time I didn’t think at all about whether I would ever play football again or never again. He had a clear mission, to make sure mom is okay.

For this reason, Peric-Komsic did not hesitate to become his mother’s donor. Fortunately, the operation went very well and after several months of recovery, both the striker and his mother are much better. The footballer already trains with his team, although apart from the entire group. He is still not evaluated if he will be able to continue playing or not.

Mom is a bigger hero than me. God forbid what happened in the last 13 years. She had three failed liver transplants from a deceased donor. The risk was huge and Mom’s time was running out. Her life was in danger, her stomach was filling with water and it was a matter of days… The moment I knew that all other options were exhausted, I packed my things and flew to Istanbul.

However, Robert Peric-Komsic is already eager to return to the courts, but everything will depend on his evolution. The athlete says that the training sessions are dosed but that he is getting closer to his return to the courts. In the end, the most important thing in his life is safe.

Everything else was secondary. Thank God everything went well. Both surgery and recovery. We are both fine, I am almost ready to go back to the field and mom got a new life after 13 years of struggle.
