A Hispanic man living in Stamford, Connecticutwas arrested on Tuesday for violating his probation and is being investigated for his alleged murder baby Liam Rivera, two years old.
The subject, identified as Edgar Ismalej-Gómez, 26, is also accused of holding the boy’s mother at gunpoint for a week.
The boy’s body was found in Cumming Park, a local park, wrapped in black sacks and with multiple head wounds.
Stamford Police Chief Timothy Shaw stressed that the boy’s body was found under the excavated earth, and assured that although it is common in his profession to see tough and difficult scenes, some days are more difficult than others. “What the officers saw yesterday is not something they were prepared for,” he said.
Shaw revealed Ismalej-Gómez had a restraining order, as in August 2021 he was arrested for abusing the baby when he was just eight months old; he pleaded guilty in April 2022 and was sentenced to 60 days in jail and 3 years of probation.
However, charges have not yet been filed in the minor’s murder and he is being held for violating his probation, for which a three million dollar bond has been set.
Although Ismalej-Gómez was ordered not to go near the child, state attorney Michelle Manning told the court that the man had been living with his wife for the past few weeks. baby and his mother.
According to Manning’s statements, the boy was found lifeless after the man was in his room and did not allow his mother to call for help, then proceeded to bag and bury the body.
After detaining the woman for several days, Ismalej-Gomez drove to West Virginia with her until she was able to call the police for help on Monday at noon, which led to the discovery of the child’s body .
