His victory, in two short sets (6-1, 6-3) and 1h12 of play, allows him to confirm that he is indeed one of the strong men at the start of the season and, above all, to climb to 2nd place in the ATP rankings, behind the untouchable Novak Djokovic.
Twice an unfortunate finalist in Miami, Sinner therefore wards off fate by offering himself his 2nd career Masters 1000 after Montreal last year. He took the opportunity to sign a 22nd victory in… 23 matches in 2024. His one and only tormentor? Carlos Alcaraz, in the semi-final at Indian Wells.
For his part, Gregor Dimitrov should not be ashamed of his performance. Even though he was clearly underperforming this Sunday evening, he had an almost perfect week, offering himself Hubert Hurkacz, Carlos Alcaraz et Alexander Zverev to reach the final. He took the opportunity to return to the Top 10 and climb to a nice 9th place in the ATP rankings.
