If you haven’t seen yet Rebel Ridgeyou might want to give it a try tonight (or next weekend) because its protagonist just became a superhero. Yes, DC Studios has signed Aaron Pierre to put on the Green Lantern suit like John Stewart in Lanterns, the science fiction thriller that HBO is preparing within the DC cinematic universe (DCU).
Pierre joins Kyle Chandler in this project, who was confirmed a few days ago as a veteran Hal Jordan. It is to be expected that from now on more signings will be announced for secondary roles in a series that, despite being superheroes, It will be more like True Detective than Ryan Reynolds’ Green Lantern. But in the meantime, what exactly do we know about Aaron Pierre?
It is not his first role in the DC multiverse
Well, more than you think. Apart from starring in the action film that has been the most watched on Netflix for practically the entire month of September, he also had the opportunity to work alongside M. Night Shyamalan in Time (2021) and, drum roll, a DC Comics multiverse series. Specifically, he played Dev-Em, a Sagitari (soldier), in Kryptona curious Superman prequel that only lasted two seasons. It is currently not streaming.
Pierre has prevailed in the race to be Green Lantern over Stephan James, who has also been rumored a lot in recent weeks for the role. At the moment there is no scheduled release date for Lanterns, but it is expected to begin filming at the beginning of 2025. Before that, Creature Commandos should be released, an animated fiction with James Gunn at the helm that will open the DCU on television.
