Misuse of psychedelic mushrooms
A 30-year-old American living in l’Arizona, and suffering from bipolarity decided to stop his medical treatment. He turned to alternative treatments and more specifically to the use of psychedelic mushrooms, to treat his depression and opioid addiction. After boiling the hallucinogenic mushrooms, the man filtered the mixture with cotton wool, and obtained a kind of tea.
He then decided, very badly, to inject the liquid intravenously. The psychedelic fungi in the body then began to devour him from the inside, causing this man to have a double bacterial and mycotic infection. The man was then rushed to Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Arizona.
Severe symptoms and long-term hospitalization
The man who injected hallucinogenic mushrooms into the body intravenously, had many failures organs, including lungs and kidneys. The man also suffered from confusion, lethargy, diarrhea, nausea and also vomiting. His symptoms were so severe that the patient remained eight days in intensive care and a total of 22 days in hospital.
Yet the Dr Curtis McKnight explains that, if consumed normally, i.e. orally, psychedelic mushrooms are a promising track as part of treatment against depression and addictions. Man therefore “correct” made a mistake in injecting the product into the human body but was not mistaken in the curative effects.
