The son of the owners of a supermarket in Massachusetts (USA) discovered a scratch card that had not been completely scratched. After completing the game, he realized that it was a winning ticket worth one million dollars, or more than 816,000 €. Rather than keep it for himself and his family, he tracked down the person who bought it to hand it over, the agency reports Associated Press.
The beginning of this story dates back to March 16. As she does regularly, Lea Rose Fiega went to this mini-market during her meridian break to scratch game tickets. That day, she chose a “Diamond Millions”.
“I was in a hurry so I quickly scratched it”
“I was in a hurry, so I quickly scratched it, and as it did not seem to me that it was a winning ticket, I threw it”, she confided, relayed by West France. It was not until March 26 that Abhi Shah, the son of the owners of the convenience store, sorted the tickets thrown in the trash and discovered this game.
When he realized that this ticket was worth a million dollars, he hesitated. “On the one hand, I had a million dollars on hand. On the other hand, I wanted to do a good deed, ”said this thirty-something. In the end, his generosity won the day and he decided to find this client.
A gain shared with the managers of the mini-market
“He came to my office and told me his parents wanted to see me,” she says. I told him I was working, and he said I really had to come to the store, ”added Lea Rose Fiega. The latter has decided to share part of the earnings with the family who run this mini-market.
At the same time, the managers will receive a bonus of 10,000 dollars, or just over 8,160 € from the Massachusetts State Lottery.
