Federal Energy Minister Tinne Van der Straeten intends to file a defamation complaint against MR President Georges-Louis Bouchez. The Flemish ecologist announces this Friday, May 10 in an interview published by De Standaard that she asked her lawyer to take the necessary legal steps.
At the start of the week, Georges-Louis Bouchez estimated that a commission of inquiry was necessary to look into the way in which the extension of nuclear power plants was managed by Minister Van der Straeten and Chris Peeters, then CEO of the operator of the high voltage network Elia. According to him, lies were told in previous months to guarantee a nuclear phase-out.
“This is defamation. Twice, Mr. Bouchez affirmed that I was lying, that I was using Elia’s analyzes and that a commission of inquiry should be set up. There is talk of a commission with the powers of an investigating judge, and the possibility of carrying out searches. Should there be one simply because the president of the MR has a difference of opinion on the policy to pursue?“, deplores Minister Van der Straten in the interview. “If Mr. Bouchez wishes to judicialize the public debate, then I file a complaint for unfounded statements which are, moreover, legally questionable“, she continues.
