In 1957, Heinsohn won the Rookie of the Year award and the first league title. By 1965, he had added seven more NBA championships, joining the All Star team six times. His name has been associated with the Celtics for six decades.

He has been inducted into the Hall of Fame twice, both as a player and as a coach. Besides him, only three other basketball players managed to do that – Lenny Wilkens, John Wooden and his Boston teammate Bill Sharman.
