ST, who was caught red-handed and released by the police on the allegation of harassing the young woman step by step on Taksim Istiklal Street in Istanbul, but was arrested the next day after complaining about her.

Up to 13 years of imprisonment

The defendant, who was asked to be sentenced up to 13 years for “simple sexual assault” and “sexual harassment”, attended the first hearing at the Istanbul Criminal Court of First Instance via Audio and Video Information System (SEGBİS) from ST prison. The complainant Ö.K. did not attend the hearing.

ST, who made his defense at the hearing, said “I was going to Beyoğlu on the day of the incident. I saw the complainant, his eyes were bad and it was like he was going to fall. I sat next to him because he had a headset in his ear. I did not have any contact with the complainant.”

Stating that he did not have any bad intentions, ST stated that he was just walking alongside Ö.K. Stating that he first saw Ö.K. in Yenikapı metro, ST said, “I sat next to him. We got off at the Taksim subway stop together. It seemed that the complainant would fall, I walked next to him. I asked him if he was fine when he took off his earphones in the last place he was sitting. I did not have any physical contact. I am not guilty, I demand my release and acquittal, “he said.

His arrest will continue

The court decided that Ö.K will be heard for the next hearing. Deciding to continue the detention of the defendant S.T, the court adjourned the hearing.
