/ world today news/ I am not worried about my career, because throughout my conscious life I have done everything according to the law. This was stated by the deputy chairman of GERB Tsvetan Tsvetanov in a comment on the 4-year effective sentence imposed on him by the Sofia Court of Appeal.
“Of course, when in politics you decide to sift through principles, to fight against serious organized crime, to fight against this status quo, which for 25 years tormented and suffocated Bulgaria, of course you must be ready to bear the heavy blows of all that happened all these years,” Tsvetanov told bTV. The former interior minister stated that he is aware that he was right and the very fact that there was a statement from former ministers such as Yordan Sokolov gives him additional confidence.
“I cannot believe that an innocent person can be convicted. We still have to have faith in the justice system. I can assure you that what is happening, I myself do not wish to happen to anyone else who is fighting for the real policies that should lead to prosperity and prosperity for Bulgaria and the Bulgarian citizens”, concluded Tsvetan Tsvetanov.
We remind you that on February 9, the Sofia Court of Appeal fully confirmed the verdict of the first-instance Sofia City Court (CSC) dated May 29, 2014. in the case against Tsvetan Tsvetanov for the refused SRS. With it, Tsvetanov was found guilty on a charge of failure to fulfill official duties with the aim of thwarting criminal prosecution against 3 persons and received 4 years of imprisonment under an initial “common” regime, as well as a ban on holding a position in the state administration for a period of 5 years, ordered by the court.
There are a total of three cases in court against Tsvetanov. Two of them reached a second court instance. In the case in which the former interior minister is accused of misappropriating BGN 50,000 in favor of the former director of RZBOP-Veliko Tarnovo Orlin Todorov, Tsvetanov was acquitted at first instance.
The third case will never make it to the second instance – it is related to mobile tapping. According to him, the prosecutor’s office refused to maintain the accusations it raised in the case and the court acquitted him. According to it, the former interior minister was sued along with the three former directors of the SDOTO, after on February 3, 2014 The Sofia City Prosecutor’s Office submitted an indictment to the SGS against him and against the former directors of SDOTO – Sergey Katsarov, Kamen Kostov and Tsvetan Ivanov. All three were also acquitted.

Hello and welcome to our show on World Today News. Today, we have two esteemed guests with us to discuss the recent news about the deputy chairman of GERB, Tsvetan Tsvetanov, being sentenced to four years in prison by the Sofia Court of Appeal. Joining us is Dr. Ivan Yanev, a renowned political analyst, and Mr. Rumen Petkov, a well-known defense attorney.
Dr. Yanev, let’s start with you. What is your take on this sentencing? Do you think it’s fair, considering the nature of the charges and the evidence presented in court?
Dr. Ivan Yanev: Well, it’s a complicated issue, really. On one hand, we can’t deny that there may have been some irregularities in the case against Mr. Tsvetanov. However, on the other hand, we also have to consider the larger context of political corruption and crime in Bulgaria over the past few decades. It’s possible that this sentence is justified as part of a larger effort to root out corruption from the system.
Mr. Petkov, what is your opinion on the sentence? As a defense attorney, do you think there was sufficient evidence to convict Mr. Tsvetanov on these charges?
Mr. Rumen Petkov: I believe that every person accused of a crime has the right to due process and a fair trial. In this case, we don’t have all the information available to us, but from what we do know, it seems unclear whether a four-year sentence was appropriate. It’s important that justice is served, but it’s equally important that it’s done fairly and transparently.
Dr. Yanev, you mentioned the former interior minister’s statement about being ready to bear the blows of his actions for his political beliefs. What do you make of this statement?
Dr. Ivan Yanev: He’s referring to his struggle against organized crime and corruption, which he believes is necessary for the prosperity of Bulgaria and its citizens. This shows that he has strong convictions and is willing to stand by them, even if it means facing consequences. However, we need to remember that fighting corruption isn’t enough; it requires structural changes and a commitment from
