He continues to fight for the application of the Assisted Fertilization Law – General Interest | Fuegian minute

Keep fighting for the application of the Assisted Fertilization law

Celeste Sánchez Taboada, from the ‘Sumate Tierra del Fuego’ Association explained that “it is a civil and social association for infertility and life, it has more than 70 members and continues to add; we are people who cannot have children naturally and need the help of science to conceive ”.

Asked about the half-sanction of the Chamber of Deputies for legal abortion in Argentina, she said that “we feel sadness and a certain lack of consideration because putting this issue in debate in the international month of fertility care, already affects us, because not more than a few days before the vote, we were celebrating the recent reforms to the Assisted Fertilization Law and today we are talking about this issue that is far from having anything to do with life. “

He added in relation to embryo freezing and legal abortion that “they are fighting to kill embryos that they do not consider human beings and before they defended embryos of the same gestation time, saying that human beings were frozen, a total contradiction.”

He also regretted the insults and mistreatment of the legal abortion activists “telling those who are against to go and adopt, as if it were so easy.”

This association has also been promoting the modification of the Adoption Law. “We have been fighting for a long time and looking for improvements to this law. It is necessary to fight so that the laws are fulfilled or improved and later to speak of new laws ”.

He explained that the current adoption law suffers from many shortcomings, “one of them is time, you have to wait three years up for a couple or a single person to adopt.” He assured that the bureaucracy also adds to the shortcomings of the law. “Dilation makes those who want to adopt a five-year-old child, for example, when they are called, the boy is already ten and it is not the same for a ten-year-old to bond with a five-year-old,” Celeste Sánchez observed.

Regarding the Assisted Fertilization Law, the interviewee regretted that “we are still fighting for Tierra del Fuego to adhere to the national law or to regulate the law that is still in a little box, which is the Assisted Fertilization Law No. 995 of the province, because everyone who has the social work of the former IPAUSS that is now called OSEF, does not have access to this law since it is a social work that claims to be governed by provincial law and they do not take charge of anything. This month marks five years since we have the Assisted Fertilization Law and we are still fighting for the province to join or do something so that these things do not continue to happen.

“We are fighting so that both those who have social work and those who do not have comprehensive coverage in treatment, which is what the law says, not a whim.”

He explained that to freeze the embryo “an egg and sperm are taken and outside the uterus, an invitro fertilization is carried out. It may happen that, within this procedure, more than one egg is fertilized and therefore more than one embryo is generated. By law, no more than three embryos can be implanted per attempt. If a couple or a person, six embryos emerge from this procedure, for example, you have to freeze the ones that are not used, so that in the event that the first attempt does not work, you do not have to go through that procedure to return to remove eggs, remove sperm again and redo the entire embryonic process at the risk that it does not work again, because this is not that it always works 100% ”.

He observed that “having embryos is like having gold powder and this embryo conservation is not contemplated as integral coverage within the law, that is another problem, in addition to criticism. That is to say, we have coverage that is not fulfilled in Tierra del Fuego in assisted fertilization, we do not yet have coverage at the National level in the ‘vitrification’ procedure, which is how this embryo conservation procedure is called, there is a long way to go. what we must fight for and we continue to do everything possible to achieve improvements that favor patients ”.
