The heads of the municipality congratulated the director of the Jonava public library, Skirmutė Gajauskaitė, who was awarded this year’s Medal of the Order “For Services to Lithuania” by the Presidency.
The head of the Jonava institution was honored at the State Awards ceremony in Vilnius on February 16, the municipality reports.
The honorable award was given to S. Gajauskaitei for her active participation in cultural and professional activities, for innovative solutions focused on promoting the progress of the country’s public libraries.
“We are happy and proud of the director, and at the same time we congratulate the entire staff of the library, because this evaluation is a merit of all of you,” said the district mayor Mindaugas Sinkevičius, who visited the library on Friday.
The public library of the Jonava district municipality is today one of the community’s information, culture and leisure centers. Its main activities are to encourage residents of various ages and social groups to read more, improve reading skills, and raise the prestige of reading.
Various projects and events are organized in the library: audio readings, theatrical book presentations, literary afternoons, meetings, printed and virtual exhibitions, educational activities.
The Book Terrace in the library yard is open 24 hours a day, where you can read books, regional press, surf the Internet, communicate or otherwise spend your free time.
