For almost ten years he fought against the leadership of Czech football personified by Vice President Roman Berbr. In the crowd of loyal officials, he became an outcast, death threats came to his cell phone, and on one trip from the general meeting, even an unknown car tried to push him off the road. The chairman of the Prachatice football association, Jiří Trněný, has become a symbol of the fight against dirt in Czech football.
Before Thursday’s election of the new chairman of the OFS, however, there is a real risk that shortly after Roman Berbr, even his biggest critic will fall. Some clubs playing the region in the men’s category joined forces against Trněnný (while in the district they have only preparations, which entitles them to vote here) and at the last moment they set up a counter-candidate: Pavel Hodina, an official of FK Lažiště.
Who is Jiří Trněný? The 61-year-old official was best known for his relentless protest against the domination of former FACR Vice-Chairman Roman Berbr and his system. As a result, he also faced various threats and also associates his involvement in football with a suspicious incident that took place ten years ago.
“I was driving home from the general meeting to Prachatice. Suddenly another car started to overtake me, and when it reached my level, the driver started driving into me as if trying to push me off the road. I don’t think it was a coincidence because he reacted according to the way I moved without trying to avoid a collision. It was only when I pulled the steering wheel into the side lane that it passed, “Trněný recalls.
At the same time, he is no beginner behind the wheel, he has long made a living as a professional driver in civilian life. “Someone tried to intimidate me,” he is clear.
A few days later, a vulgar text message beeped on his cell phone. “The author told me that I was an asshole and there was supposedly enough space at the bottom of Orlík. I called back and the phone was already disconnected, it was obviously a disposable SIM card,” adds Trněný.
He waited, but…
The chairman of the Prachatice football association finally saw the fall of Roman Berbr, but on Thursday he will find out how long he will “survive” his main enemy. Elections to the OFS are being held in Prachatice, and Trnýný has grown up with competition initiated by clubs that complain about poor communication with the current head of the district.
“We would like to lead someone more skilful, who will communicate better with the clubs, who will be dedicated to the youth, who will go to watch the matches, who will be interested if we have any problems,” says Petr Kouba, head of the Tatran Prachatice club, who is the main initiator of the “revolt”.
However, mutual relations were broken by the fact that Trněný paradoxically went to matches. That is, even those that were supposed to play but did not play. Three years ago, three matches of younger products were not kicked out in the district, but the fictitious results still appeared in the official record. Representatives of the clubs defend themselves by saying that the chairman of the OFS did not allow them to reschedule the matches due to the bad weather. On the contrary, Trněný considered the actions a fraud, he counted the matches and fined the divisions.
Whatever the truth, the case caused a noticeable rift in communication between some clubs and the district association. And this was reflected, among other things, in the fact that the Mandate will face the Opponent on Thursday.
“I have nothing against someone else going to the polls, it is a principle of democracy. But I am afraid that if my opponent is elected, practices that have damaged the whole of Czech football for many years and that I have tried against will return to our district. fight, “says Trněný.
Opponent Pavel Hodina, however, rejects his words. “Mr. Berbr should have been sitting for me a long time ago. I am fundamentally against corrupt behavior, as a player I have met him several times and I preferred to be replaced because I did not need to be on the field when the referee cut us or helped us. , “he claims.
Jílek’s support is also in the game
Although Roman Berbra is indeed awaiting trial, many of his former co-workers still remain in football structures.
And while Trněný openly supports initiatives that promote a fundamental cleansing of the football environment, the Prachatice opposition does not rule out the support of the current chairman of the regional football association, Jan Jílek, who belonged to Berbr’s camp. Representatives of district and regional football associations become, among other things, delegates who will have the right to elect a new head of the FACR in the summer.
“We submitted the candidacy in five minutes to twelve. Time is short, but we want to dedicate it to the district elections. Now I can’t say who we would support in case of victory,” Hodina explains.
The campaign even reached the stage where information was circulating in Prachatice that Trněný was a collaborator of state security. However, his name is missing in the StB volumes, the 61-year-old official under the previous regime was not even an ordinary member of the Communist Party. “We distance ourselves from such slander, we do not drag politics into football at all,” says Kouba.
