He brings in the players and replaces them after a few minutes: Zurich coach Moniz gets an umbrella blow

Defending your son at all costs. Going beyond the permitted limit. It is incredible what happened at the Herti Allmend stadium in Zug, Switzerland, where the father of the young Zurich footballer, Labinot Bajrami, he threw an umbrella from the stands towards the Dutch coach Ricardo Moniz, guilty of having removed his son from the field after just 18 minutes.

The fury of the father

The facts date back to last August 19, the day of the Swiss Cup match between the modest Zug, which plays in the 2. Interregional League, and the more famous Zurich. In the 60th minute, with the score at 0-2, the coach of the visiting team decided to insert the young 19-year-old Bajrami, a product of the youth sector of the white-blue club. However, his match lasted only a handful of minutes, 18 to be exact. In fact, Moniz called him back to the bench due to his lack of effort. The person concerned did not take it well at all, going straight back to the locker room, slamming the door and letting slip a few too many words. But his father did worse, who, irritated by the substitution, he threw an umbrella at the Dutch coach, fortunately he was not hit by the object. It should be noted that the “theater” of this tension was the small suburban stadium Herti Allmend, where the stands and the benches are separated by just a few meters, which made the act of madness of Bajrami senior even more dangerous, immediately taken away by the police.

The technician threatens to resign

The referee Fedayi San was forced to temporarily interrupt the match. The president of the Zurich, Ancillo Canepa, which helped restore calm. At the end of the match, however, Moniz vented to the press, even threatening to resign: ”I have never experienced anything like this in my entire career, this is a dark chapter. I have to reflect with my family: the pointed umbrella missed me by a few centimetres, my safety cannot be put at risk”.

This is not the first episode that sees Moniz as the protagonist

Taking a substitute off the bench after a few minutes seems to be a bad habit on the part of Ricardo Moniz. The 60-year-old Dutch coach, who has been at the helm of Zurich since April and is a true globetrotter (he has coached in 10 different countries), on the first day of the Swiss championship, on July 20 on the Yverdon pitch, brought on the Israeli defender Leidner in the 26th minute, but was then replaced at half-time (probably due to a warning received shortly after entering the field). And then again on August 8, in the Conference League playoff match against the Portuguese team Vitoria Guimaraes, Moniz brought on the Congolese striker Okita at the start of the second half, only to call him back to the bench in the 63rd minute. Bajrami is therefore only the latest unfortunate victim of the coach’s decidedly iron-clad methods. The results, however, seem to prove him right: Zurich is currently first in the Swiss championship with 10 points from 4 games. The rules, however, are clear: those who don’t apply themselves are out.
