He broke through the door of the Novara Town Hall with his car and stopped inside, also overwhelming the automatic door that divides the entrance from the area of the counters open to the public. It happened this morning (Saturday 31 August) when the offices were closed (summer time is in effect) and there were no employees or citizens inside. No person was therefore involved. The man, a 39-year-old from Novara, doused himself with petrol and threatened to set himself on fire but was immediately stopped by the police.
It was an agent on duty at the nearby prefecture who raised the alarm. The patrols of Volante and Mobile arrived immediately on the spot, as well as local police, carabinieri and firefighters. The man, who used his mother’s car for the breakthrough, was arrested for aggravated damage. He was taken to the hospital for the investigation of the case.
